86-Year-Old Skydiving Legend Makes History

Posted by Andrew R.

In April 2017, Lew Sanborn made skydiving history in Hawaii. Not only did the 86-year-old fulfill his goal of skydiving in all 50 states, but he also set a record of 68 straight years of skydiving.

Lew started jumping when he was in the army in 1948, and he became the first skydiver to be licensed by the USPA. Lew (D-1) and Jacques André Istel (D-2) are the legends who established sport skydiving in the United States in the 1950s.
